How I help / Design it

UX design. Make the right thing the easy thing.

I design how a product works: the journey, the steps, the decisions and what happens when something goes wrong. The aim is simple. People should be able to do what they came to do without a manual open in another tab.

UX design, at a glance.

What it is

User experience design: the journey through a product, the order of the steps and what each screen asks people to do.

Why it matters

People have little patience for confusing tools. A clear flow saves questions, mistakes and support requests.

How I design

Understand the task, sketch the flow, test it as a clickable prototype, then refine it with the people who will use it.

Design meets build

I also build software, so the design stays realistic and nothing gets lost in the handover to development.

Good software feels obvious.

A lot of software is designed last, if at all. The result is a form with forty fields, a button nobody can find and a team that keeps a spreadsheet on the side.

UX design starts with the person and the task. What do they need to see, decide and enter, and in what order? The visual layer comes once the flow works.

New products

Design the journeys and flows before development, so the build starts from something people have already tried.

A tool people avoid

Find the confusing steps, simplify the flow and fix the parts that cause the most trouble.

Forms and applications

Sign-ups, requests and approvals with fewer fields, clearer wording and error messages that actually help.

How I design.

Watch the work

Talk to the people doing the task. Note what they look for, what they skip and where they hesitate.

Sketch the flow

Map the steps and decisions before any polish. It is cheaper to move a box than to rebuild a screen.

Prototype and test

Turn the flow into a clickable prototype and try it with real users and real examples.

Hand over to the build

Annotated flows, states and edge cases, documented so the software can be built faithfully. Often by me.

A designer who also builds.

I do UI, UX and graphic design, including freelance work on 99designs. As external / fractional CTO at Kona Libre, I also develop the application myself, so I design with the build in mind.

I started out close to customers, in sales and service, including customer-facing roles at Emirates and Ryanair. From there, my work grew into sales operations, CRM and the systems behind them. I still think about the person on the other side of the screen.

A sensible first step.

UX work often starts inside focused discovery: one defined process, a problem statement and solution plan, and a clickable demo when that helps answer the question.

Design for a well-defined build is quoted to scope, using the defined implementation day rate as the planning basis. Current prices are under Engagements & pricing.
